Latest On Clemson’s Lone Remaining Recruiting Target

Clemson has had a stellar summer on the recruiting front, picking up 18 commitments since the middle of May. As of now, there is just one more offered target on the board.

Four-star safety Seth Williams (Lakeside, GA) has still yet to announce a new commitment date after postponing his original July 3 decision date. This has been a Clemson-Georgia battle for weeks.

“Clemson has been up there since I got the offer. That is my dream school,” Williams recently told TCI. “Then getting Georgia, that was a dream come true also. It is two different feelings that these two schools hold. I always told my parents, they are big Georgia fans — everybody around me is big Georgia fans… my family in Florida are big Florida fans — but I always told my family that I am going to the school that is the best fit for me, where I would thrive the most.”

While there is no news on the Williams front, two other safeties have made decisions in recent days that might have possibly had implications on this recruitment.

Four-star Ta’Shawn Poole committed to Florida State on Friday. With Williams’ recruitment still very much up in the air, and Georgia having yet to land a defensive back in the 2027 class, the Dawgs were pursuing Poole hard. However, in the end, it was another swing and a miss for Kirby Smart’s program.

Finally, on Saturday, Georgia finally hit on a defensive back when four-star Adryan Cole announced a verbal pledge to the Dawgs.

Had Georgia been able to land both, it is possible they would have let up on Williams some. Having landed just one of the two, the Bulldogs still need another safety.

As things stand, Williams is the lone remaining target for Clemson in the 2027 class. He committed to Clemson back in the spring on the spot after picking up his offer, only to inform the coaching staff the following day he made the decision to quickly and wasn’t quite ready to shut things down yet.

Williams went on to take several different spring visits, then only took official visits to Georgia and Clemson. He had officials also set with Ohio State and Florida, but scratched those.

The 6-foot-2 safety has said on multiple occasions that he was hoping to be committed before the end of the month, although he did not rule out the possibility of it stretching out longer than that.

“The goal is to commit in the month of July,” Williams said. “If it goes past that, then that is what happens, but that is the plan.”
